Amy O’Brien is the owner and CEO of Life by Design Financial Services. Specializing in goals-based financial planning, particularly for women in transition, Amy is a passionate advocate for financial education. After graduating from Purdue University Calumet with a degree in political science, Amy began a career in finance, working as a licensed banker at Chase and later as a retail banker at 1 st Source Bank. Ten years later, she founded the firm, Life by Design—a step that aligned her career with her personal values of service and independence. Amy holds security registrations 6, 7, 63 and 66, as well as health and life insurance licenses.
Amy’s greatest satisfaction comes from seeing her clients gain financial security and hope. She inspires clients to believe in themselves and their dreams for establishing lasting change. She is her clients’ advocate, educator and partner. A lifelong learner, Amy understands the value of sound financial education in avoiding and correcting costly mistakes. She’s transformed her own financial circumstances, and she’s passionate about empowering others to do the same, breaking down complex financial topics in accessible ways.
Amy lives in Northwest Indiana, with her husband Nathan, her two young children, Molly and Greyson—and their two dogs. Her family is the heart of her life. On summer days, you’ll find her playing at the beach with her husband and children. In her off hours, Amy entertains others as the lead singer in her band, Vintage Postcard. She strongly believes in giving back: she supports community theater, and she belongs to Tri Kappa, a philanthropic group that provides much-needed resources for a local hospital and other organizations. She loves singing, reading, writing and hiking.
